School Supply List

Dear Parents:

Welcome to the Jackson Hole Middle School Parent Page!  As the principal of the Middle School, I want you to know how much I value your involvement in your child’s education.

Parents play a crucial role in their child’s educational success.  Checking on homework, asking questions about what they are studying, encouraging reading, and conversations about current events all help your child. We also appreciate parents who have the time to volunteer in school.  Please check out our Media Center page for appropriate web sites that will help your child with research, as well as educational sites that they may enjoy going to.

Homework: We provide an agenda for your child to write assignments down, and teachers have either blogs with homework assignments and information on them, or include that information in emails that are sent home to you on a regular basis.  Students should not be confused about any of their homework assignments!  Teachers know that homework is an important part of learning, as it reinforces what is taught in school and provides feedback to the teachers on how well students are learning.  Parents who set clear expectations that homework is important and must be done help their child be successful. Have a quiet place for homework to be done, ask questions about what they are working on, and answer questions when they arise. If your child is not able to do most of the homework assignment independently – after many attempts, then let the teacher know that your child really did try, but that it was too difficult.

Volunteering: Participation does not end after the elementary grades; your involvement here at JHMS does make a difference. Whether you volunteer in our Media Center on a regular basis or help out with a special project, we offer a wide variety of options for you to be a part of our school that goes well beyond "cookies and punch" and chaperoning. (Although chaperoning our dances can be lots of fun!) Your involvement strongly impacts both the quality and quantity of learning opportunities for our students.

Parents Involved in Education:  The first Wednesday of every month I hold an informal meeting with parents to discuss what is happening at the Middle School.  This is a great opportunity to hear about major initiatives, student achievement and for me to answer your questions and discuss your concerns.  These meetings are extremely helpful to me in terms of getting your input and suggestions.

Please feel comfortable to direct your questions, concerns or suggestions to me, Jean Coldsmith by phone: 733-4234 or email: jcoldsmith@teton1.k12.wy.us
